ReelectionsPosted by Board Member on Friday May 14 2010We are having board reelections this Wednesday during Academic Recovery. Please come and vote. PLEASE. The reasoning for reelections is below.
FROM JJG:
1. The discrepancy in the election is that the constitutional provision of a deadline- by which all petitions are to be submitted by candidates- two days before the election- was not followed. That is my responsibility, shared with the board officers, to insure the election procedure is followed correctly. We all missed it.
2. Because we missed this provision, two more things happened. First, petitions were accepted before and after the constitutional deadline. Second, the meeting between board officers and candidates- understood to include education in the ways of each office to help candidates with their decisions to run- happened after that deadline, too.
3. The focus of that meeting, education, also carries an implication that candidates can use it to help make up their minds about running for office, and for which office to run. But, it needed to happen at least two days before the election and meet the same deadline as petitions. It did not.
4. On the one hand, anything submitted, admitted or discussed after the deadline is invalid. So, if candidates expressed preferences for which office they wanted to seek, but changed their minds after the meeting- that is not permitted one day before the election.
5. HOWEVER, this does not mean that any candidate broke the rules.
6. INSTEAD, it means that in neglecting the deadline, we- the six of us- also implied to candidates that everything they said, and did was legitimate. That is our responsibility for the error, not the error of a candidate.
To their real credit, your officers recognized this error. They acknowledged the problem with the election results. Wrestling with issues of fairness, and decisions that would be best for everyone in PLAYERS, are not simple.
What now?
The board considered the consequences, and has adopted a strategy that is fair and admirable.
1. The election results affect two offices- Secretary and Treasurer. They do not affect the results of the other three offices.
2. The candidates for Secretary and Treasurer will meet with me, and with Tali, tomorrow to review in person all of the information here, in more detail.
3. A new election, following all of the correct procedures and meeting the correct deadline, is planned, pending the outcome of conversations with the candidates.
Thanks for reading. This is a tough issue. Your officers accepted full responsibility for handling it and deserve full credit for inventing a solution.
Board 2010-2011Posted by Board Member on Thursday May 6 2010Congrats and best of luck to the new board - 2010-2011!
President: Tali Berger
Vice President: Rosemary Hwang
Treasurer: Emily Shepard

Dear Player’s Parents,
Hello! We, the Lower Merion PLAYERS executive board, are writing to you to invite you to the 5th annual PLAYERS gala to be held Saturday evening May 17. PLAYERS’ end of the year gala offers a wonderful opportunity for parents and friends of PLAYERS members to come together with the PLAYERS coaches to celebrate a successful year, meet other parents for an evening of great company and great food, and, significantly, to contribute to charities to honor the memories of the four LM PLAYERS students who we will never forget.
Each year, the PLAYERS Gala is an event to honor these four students from our PLAYERS community- Dina Goldstone ’04, Ani Fiordimondo ’05, Matt Ehrman ’06, and Jess Easter ’07. To recall our pledge to keep them in our memory, this year’s Gala’s proceeds will benefit the Dina Goldstone Scholarship for Performing Arts, the Andrea Fiordimondo Performing Arts Scholarship, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the University of Florida-Glycogen Storage Disease Fund.
Admission is $40 made payable to Lower Merion PLAYERS. Additional donations are always welcome.
